Making RS-232-compliant parts that run below 3.0V requires something other than charge-pump doublers
and inverters. Figure 6 shows the MAX3212 which uses a single inductor to generate the ±6.5V required by
the transmitters. With this buck converter topology, the part runs on a single supply from 2.7V to 3.6V.
