Notification of changes
Elimination of dibutyl phthalate in boxed film capacitors
according REACH
The boxed film capacitor series B32* and B81*manufactured in Málaga, Spain, and Nashik,
India, currently contain dibutyl phthalate [CAS # 84-74-2; EC # 201-557-4] in a maximum
concentration of 1.9 % by weight. By using an equivalent resin with similar characteristics, all
EPCOS film capacitors manufactured after April 1, 2011 will be dibutyl phthalate free.
This product change will have no effect on the component specification or the reliability
values. Ordering codes and labels of the capacitors will remain unchanged.
Background: Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 concerning Registration, Evaluation,
Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals [1] (REACH for short) has been in force since
June 1, 2007. Producers, importers and other suppliers of articles containing Substances of
Very High Concern (SVHC) included in the candidate list according to article 59 (1, 10) of the
REACH Regulation in a concentration above 0.1 % by weight must provide the information
that is available to them.
EPCOS is taking every effort to discontinue the use of this SVHC as early as possible. The
current status can be found at www.epcos.com/reach
