which you can then use to create debugging applications.
Examples of debugging applications include induced trigger conditions evaluated by a SignalTap
®
II Logic
Analyzer by exercising test signals connected to the analyzer instance, a replacement for a front panel
interface during the prototyping phase of the design, or inserted test vectors for exercising the design
under test.
The infrastructure is an extension of the JTAG protocol for use with Altera-specific applications and user
applications, such as the SignalTap II Logic Analyzer.
Licensing IP Cores
The Altera IP Library provides many useful IP core functions for your production use without purchasing
an additional license. Some Altera MegaCore
®
IP functions require that you purchase a separate license
for production use. However, the OpenCore
®
feature allows evaluation of any Altera
®
IP core in
simulation and compilation in the software. After you are satisfied with functionality and performance,
visit the Self Service Licensing Center to obtain a license number for any Altera product.

Note: The default IP installation directory on Windows is <drive>:\altera\<version number>; on Linux it is

Upgrading IP Cores
IP core variants generated with a previous version or different edition of the software may require
upgrading before use in the current version or edition of the software. When you open a project
containing outdated IP, the Project Navigator displays a banner indicating the IP upgrade status. Click
Launch IP Upgrade Tool, or Project > Upgrade IP Components to upgrade outdated IP cores.
